About us

Hungarian Roots as its name says, is a website for people of Hungarian and Hungarian Jewish origin. We started our enterprise back in 2004 in order to help people search for and find their roots in our country and in the region, as well as to organize special advanture tours for people interested in Eastern-European and Soviet military aviation in Hungary.

Genealogy. This Greek word stands for 'the study and tracing of family lineages and history', but when we write it down and you read it, there is a lot more attached to it: the smell of freshly baked bread, games on the fields with your mates, pale memories of the shtetls or small villages where you or your parents grew up, the smell of the church or the shul, the flavor of the sabbath cholent, memories of your grandparents telling you how and where they had lived. Births, weddings, funerals. And of course, a lot of old, yellowish photographs, with some unreadable handwriting at the back...

What we offer you is not a simple genealogical research, it is a lot more! As you want, we can make it a real adventure tour: we visit with you the places your ancestors had lived at, we visit the old family house, and go to the cemetery to find the tombs and we help you translate any epitaph in Hungarian, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian or German. This is the unique way We bring you closer to your family tree. All the experience is guaranteed by our enthusiasm and passion for research!

What do you have to do if you are interested in our services? Just contact us at any of our availabilities and let us listen to your needs, to what you are looking for and let us speak about how we work.

What do we need to get started? Some records from the record book, memories, names and dates of family events such as birth, barmitsvah, wedding, funeral, the religion of the family should be enough to start our research.

Besides English, you can also communicate with us in Hungarian, Russian, Yiddish, Hebrew and German.
